Bismuth is a brittle, silvery-white post transition metal with a pinkish tint. Major element characteristics include low toxicity, high diamagnetism and expansion upon solidification. It has the highest electrical resistance and the lowest thermal conductivity of any metal (except mercury in the case of thermal conductivity).
Widely used as a replacement for lead-alloys, solders and in plumbing. It’s also essential in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics due to its extremely low toxicity.Â
