Dysprosium is a silvery-white, soft rare-earth metal which is known for its high magnetic susceptibility, high-temperature resistance to demagnetization, and strong neutron absorption ability. 

It’s primarily used as an alloy for NdFeB magnet manufacture as an additive to prevent demagnetization at high temperatures. The element is also crucial for electric vehicle, wind turbine, nuclear control rod, metal halide light, hard-drive and compact disk data storage, laser and specialized alloy manufacture.
