This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. The contrasting black & white lacquered, hardwood scabbard and beautiful brass, gilded with silver & gold sword fittings, complement the black and white Katana handle very nicely.
