Most notably, the curved, Kukri drop-blade, with its wide and large mass of steel towards the tip of the blade provides similar chopping force to an axe. Very hard to accomplish with a standard machete design. However unlike an axe, the Kukri survival knife has a long blade edge which widens the chopping, cutting and general impact area of the blade – utilized more like a machete.
Highly versatile for jungle survival and very useful in the woods, this knife will cut small trees and branches fast and with power, again, something a normal machete will struggle with. But again, unlike an axe, these knives will have a wider area of impact, making them useful for clearing thick vegetation, chopping large leaves, etc, which is more in-line with common machete utility.
With the ability to cut and chop, and importantly with serious power, these knives are certainly positioned for combat. And to this day they are used by the British Nepalese Gurkha army as a fighting knife. They can also be used for thrusting as effectively as any other classic combat knife and these models in particular have a secondary skull crusher pommel weapon located at the base of the handle.
