With these two steel grades, the blade is then hand-forged laminated into two separate sections, with the layout consisting of a soft steel core, wrapped with hard steel. 

The purpose of this laminate is to utilize the tough, hard and durably sharp cutting edge capability of hard steel, while facilitating additional blade resilience and the excellent elasticity of soft steel. A Kobuse laminate is a sophisticated and battle-effective structural configuration, certainly forming a very lethal foundational core to this true Katana sword saber. 

Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay-tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced sword-making technology and visibly identifiable on this Shinken sword blade.

Completed with a hardwood, wrapped with real stingray-skin scabbard, along with the intricately decorated frog Katana fittings – many of which are plated in real gold & silver, and a hardwood, wrapped with genuine stingray-skin & quality cord handle, forming a traditional, practical and effective Japanese Samurai hand-grip.
