T10 is one of the highest carbon content modern steels used for sword-smithing and arguably the best combat sword-making steel available, certainly forming a very lethal foundational core to this Japanese short sword. Blade characteristics include a hard, tough, reliable & wear-resistant cutting edge, along with desirable blade resilience and good elasticity.

Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay-tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced sword-making technology and visibly identifiable on this Shoto sword blade.

Completed with a simple, tasteful hard-rosewood scabbard, along with solid brass sword-fittings, and a hardwood, wrapped with genuine stingray-skin and silk cord handle, forming a practical and effective, traditional Japanese Samurai hand-grip.
