Arguably the best steel available for Katana sword making, characteristics include a very reliable, hard and sharp battle edge, along with excellent blade elasticity and resilience, which 1095 being technically a higher carbon content spring steel, is renowned for. 

Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced Japanese sword making technology and visibly identifiable on this sword’s blade. 

The end result is a blade with a hard, reliable and unmatched razor sharp cutting edge, along with excellent blade elasticity and resilience against damage. Both very important aspects of any true Katana and battle ready combat sword.
