Wootz steel is one of the highest carbon content modern steels used for blade-smithing, typically containing around 1.7% carbon and is classified as an ultra-high carbon steel. Arguably the best knife making steel available, Wootz steel assuredly forms a very lethal foundational core to this Japanese Samurai knife. Blade attributes include an extremely tough & hard, durable, razor sharp cutting edge, along with excellent blade elasticity and renowned resilience.
Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay-tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced Japanese blade-making technology and visibly identifiable on this Shinken Tanto fixed blade knife.
Completed with a precious nanmu-wood Tanto sheath, pure-copper Habaki, and a matching nanmu-wood handle, forming a traditional, low-maintenance and effective hand-grip.
Exemplary in every respect, fit for high-end collection, and a formidable Japanese Tanto knife to use.
