With these two steel-grades, the blade is then hand-forged laminated into three separate sections, creating an advanced Sanmai laminate structure. The structural layout consists of a hard folded steel edge, extending through the core to the exposed spine, along with two medium-hardness, folded steel side-jackets, all of which are then hammer forge-welded together.

This creates a natural hardness differential between the two steel-grades, of which is engineered well before and separate to the quenching and tempering process. 

Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay-tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced sword-making technology and visibly identifiable on this Shinken sword blade.

Beautifully completed with hardwood scabbard with 3x buffalo horn inserts, along with solid brass fittings – many of which are gilded in real gold & silver gilt, and a hardwood, wrapped with genuine stingray-skin & quality cord handle, forming a traditional, practical and effective Japanese Samurai handle grip.
