It is the highest carbon-content steel used for blade-smithing, and arguably the best sword-making steel available for a true combat sword. 

Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay-tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient.
