Purple Heart Wood

Commonly referred to as purple heart timber, violet wood or amaranth wood, this hard and dense exotic timber is prized for its incredible, rich purple color, which is sought-after for fine inlay work (especially on musical instruments), woodturning, cabinetry, flooring and furniture. 

Relatively difficult to work with due to the timber’s interlocking grain, however the wood turns well and is easy to sand smooth. The timber darkens from rich purple to a light-brown with a purple hue when exposed to sunlight, which can be minimized with finish coatings containing UV inhibitors.
