Bamboo Katana

Using three world-renowned sword-smithing steels, hard 1095 high carbon steel, medium 1060 carbon steel and soft folded steel, which is a mixture of 1060 high carbon steel, manganese spring steel, 1045 soft steel and many more smaller portions of other steels – repeatedly folded. 

With these three steel grades, the blade is then hand-forged laminated into four separate sections, creating an advanced Honsanmai laminate structure. The structural layout consists of a hard 1095 steel cutting edge, soft folded steel core and exposed spine, and two medium hardness, 1060 steel side-jackets, all of which are then hammer forge-welded together.

This creates a natural hardness differential between the three steel-grades, of which is engineered well before and separate to the quenching and tempering process. 

Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay-tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced sword-making technology and visibly identifiable on this Shinken sword blade.

Beautifully completed with a hardwood, wrapped with real stingray-skin scabbard + 3x buffalo-horn inserts, brass fittings – of which many are gilded in real gold & silver gilt, and a hardwood, wrapped with genuine stingray-skin & quality cord handle, forming a traditional, practical and effective Japanese Samurai handle grip.
