The most valuable part of any sword is its blade, with this Wootz steel sword blade certainly forming an impressive core standard of this fully functional and battle ready Uchigatana sword. 

Wootz steel is very similar in composition to Damascus steel, being a crucible mixture of 1095 & 1060 high carbon steel, manganese spring steel, 1045 soft steel and many more smaller portions of other steels, although Wootz notably has a significantly higher carbon content than Damascus. 

This mixture is then folded multiple times to remove impurities, creating many hundreds of individual steel layers, producing arguably the best sword-making steel available, a technique renowned for smithing Japanese Katana blades.

Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay-tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced Japanese sword-making technology and visibly identifiable on this Shinken sword blade.

Completed with a lacquered hardwood scabbard, with 3x real buffalo horn inserts, battle ready steel & brass fittings, and a practical hardwood, wrapped with real stingray-skin & silk cord handle, this custom made Katana is exemplary in every respect.
