The most valuable part of any sword is its blade, with this Wootz steel sword blade certainly forming an impressive core standard to this fully functional and battle ready Uchigatana sword. 

Wootz steel, a crucible-mix of predominantly iron and carbon-rich materials, along with trace amounts of other elements like manganese, silicon, and phosphorus, typically contains between 1.5-2% carbon, and is classified as an ultra-high carbon steel.

The crucible-forged process produces district characteristics within the steel, including a unique micro-structure as the steel cools, forming carbon-rich regions, which in-turn contribute to the steel’s Damascus-like patterns.

Attributes include, an extremely tough and hard blade, capable of holding a durable, razor sharp cutting edge, along with good resistance to chipping, and desirable blade elasticity. It is arguably the best sword-making steel available. 

Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay-tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced Japanese sword-making technology and visibly identifiable on this Shinken sword blade.

Completed with a very high-quality scabbard, solid brass sword-fittings – many of which are plated with real gold, and a practical hardwood, wrapped with real stingray-skin & silk cord handle, this custom made Katana is truly exemplary in every respect.
