Honsanmai Laminate Metal Katana

With these three steel grades, the blade is then hand-forged laminated into four separate sections, with the layout consisting of a hard steel cutting edge, soft steel core & exposed spine, and two medium steel side-jackets.

The purpose of this laminate is to utilize the tough, hard and durably sharp cutting edge capability of hard steel, while facilitating additional blade resilience with medium steel jackets and the excellent elasticity of soft steel. A Honsanmai laminate is one of the most sophisticated and battle-effective structural configurations available for real combat, and certainly forms a very lethal foundational core to this true Katana sword saber. 

Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay-tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced sword-making technology and visibly identifiable on this Shinken sword blade.

Completed with a hardwood, cane wrapped scabbard, along with solid brass sword fittings – many of which are plated in real gold & silver, and a hardwood, wrapped with genuine stingray-skin & quality cord handle, forming a traditional, practical and effective Japanese Samurai hand-grip.
