Odachi Katana

As an early predecessor to the extra long-handled Nagamaki sword, this Odachi sword with its overall length of 122cm and more conservative handle length of 32cm, clearly overcomes the standard Katana’s 26cm handle & 106cm overall length average, in both weapon length and power generated from handle leverage. 

The most valuable part of any sword however is its blade, with this Honsanmai laminate certainly forming a premium foundational core of this fully functional and battle ready Dai Katana sword. 

Using folded steel, which is a mixture of 1045 soft steel, 1060 high carbon steel, manganese spring steel and many more smaller portions of other steels. This mixture is then folded multiple times to remove impurities, creating many hundreds of individual steel layers, finally producing arguably the best sword-making steel available, a technique renowned for smithing Japanese Katana blades.

With this folded steel, the blade is then hand forge laminated into three separate sections, creating an advanced Honsanmai laminate structure. The structural layout consists of a hard cutting edge, soft core & spine and two medium hardness sides which are hand-forge laminated to this combination inner core. 

Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced Japanese sword making technology and visibly identifiable on this sword’s blade. 

A beautiful Japanese O Katana creation in its entirety, including the luxuriant copper + silver & gold gilt handle and scabbard, along with the brass and copper sword fittings, finish this weapon with high class.
