Equipped with a genuine Tamahagane blade, which is a locally refined steel using a centuries-old method of sourcing and mixing predominantly iron sands & carbon-rich material, typically containing between 0.7%, to an upper range of 1.5% carbon.
This mixed material is then fired and refined through a laborious, multi-swordmaker process, finally producing a blade with remarkable attributes, including a very tough and hard blade, capable of holding a durable, razor sharp cutting edge, along with very good blade resilience and highly desirable elasticity.
Tamahagane steel is not mass-produced like 1095 & T10 carbon or modern-folded steels, but is rather a centuries-old art of both steel-smithing and blade-making, which produces unique blade advantages in mixing, cooling and crystallization distribution. In the world of swords, it is regarded as the most superior sword-making steel available.
Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay-tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced sword-making technology and visibly identifiable on this Shinken sword blade.
