Wootz Sword Katana

Equipped with a Wootz steel blade, which is a crucible-mix of predominantly iron and carbon-rich materials, along with trace amounts of other elements like manganese, silicon, and phosphorus, typically containing between 1.5-2% carbon, and is classified as an ultra-high carbon steel.

The crucible-forged process produces distinct characteristics within the steel, including a unique micro-structure as the steel cools, forming carbon-rich regions, which in-turn contribute to the steel’s Damascus-like patterns. Attributes include, an extremely tough and hard blade, capable of holding a durable, razor sharp cutting edge, along with good resistance to chipping, and desirable blade elasticity.

It is arguably the best sword-making steel available, and a process that is renowned for smithing the finest combat sword blades, assuredly forming a very lethal foundational core to this Uchigatana sword saber. 

Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay-tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced Japanese sword-making technology and visibly identifiable on this Shinken sword blade.

Completed with a bright, lacquered hardwood scabbard, along with premium copper and steel sword-fittings, and a hardwood, wrapped with real stingray-skin & quality cord handle, forming a traditional, practical and effective Japanese Samurai hand-grip.
