One of the highest carbon content steels used for sword-smithing, this modern, refined steel is then repeatedly folded multiple times, creating many hundreds of individual steel layers, finally producing arguably the best sword-making steel available, a technique renowned for smithing the finest combat sword blades. 

Blade characteristics include a tough, hard and very reliable, sharp battle edge, along with very good blade elasticity and desirable resilience. 

Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay-tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced Japanese sword-making technology and visibly identifiable on this Shinken sword blade. 

Completed with an inner-hardwood, steel scabbard, painted in classic army-green, along with superb pure copper sword-fittings, and a hardwood, wrapped with real peal fish-skin & silk cord handle, forming a truly historical and very practical, Japanese Samurai hand-grip.
