With these two steels, the blade is then hand-forged laminated into three separate sections, with the layout consisting of a hard 1095 steel cutting edge, extending through the core to the exposed spine, along with two medium-hardness, folded steel side-jackets.

The purpose of this laminate is to utilize the tough, hard and durably sharp cutting edge capability of 1095 steel, while facilitating additional blade resilience and elasticity with medium folded steel jackets. A Sanmai laminate is arguably the most battle-effective structural configuration for real combat, and certainly forms a very lethal foundational core to this true Katana sword saber. 

Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay-tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced Japanese sword-making technology and visibly identifiable on this Shinken sword blade. 

Completed with an authentic painted brass scabbard, along with solid brass sword-fittings, and a hardwood, wrapped with real stingray-skin & quality-cord handle, forming a historically accurate, practical and effective Japanese Samurai hand-grip.
