1095 high carbon steel is one of the highest carbon content steels used for both sword-smithing and knife-making. It’s arguably the best steel available for both Katana and knife-making, with characteristics including a very reliable, hard and sharp battle edge, along with excellent blade elasticity and resilience, which 1095 being technically a higher carbon content spring steel, is renowned for. 

Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced Japanese blade making technology and visibly identifiable on this knife’s blade. 

The lacquered hardwood scabbard, along with its intricate, solid brass plated with gold gilding fittings, complement this Samurai knife superbly.
