Arguably the best steel available for Katana sword-making, characteristics include a very reliable, hard and sharp battle edge, along with good blade elasticity and desirable resilience, which 1095 being technically a higher carbon content spring steel, is renowned for. 

Further promoting perfection, is the very difficult process of clay-tempering the blade. This process precisely facilitates hardening of the blade’s edge, while leaving the blade’s core and spine softer and thus resilient. Definitely a marker of advanced Japanese sword-making technology and visibly identifiable on this Shinken sword blade. 

The matching hardwood scabbard & handle material close firmly together, forming a staff sword. The hardwood handle acts as a simple, sturdy and maintenance free handle grip, which is not only practical to use, but also presents in a clean, traditional form.
